who we are
WMP is a global forum uniting scientist from different sectors, policymakers, industry, regulation experts, and civil society to advance microbiome science and innovation as a central component of One Health, fostering coordinated solutions for human, animal, plant, and planetary health.

The World Microbiome Partnership
Initially established in 2023, the WMP was officially launched under the High Patronage of Mr Emmanuel MACRON President of the French Republic in June 2025 during the One Health World Microbiome Partnership Summit in Paris. The initiative develops a shared roadmap to better integrate microbiome science into public health, agriculture, environmental and climate policies, following a One Health approach.
Vision & Mission
The initiative aims to bring together microbiome professionals from around the globe to facilitate innovative partnerships and share expertise. By uniting diverse perspectives and disciplines, the WMP drives collaboration, promotes evidence-based solutions, and supports the development of microbiome-informed strategies for a healthier and more sustainable world.
Position microbiome as a central component of One Health
Ensure that microbiomes are fully recognized as essential biological links between human, animal, plant and environmental health, and embedded in One Health and Planetary Health strategies at all levels and integrate Microbiome science in public health.
Harmonize and coordinate global microbiome efforts
Bring alignment across disciplines, sectors and regions by fostering shared standards, FAIR data, common frameworks and coordinated approaches in microbiome research and data generation to build a sustainable global microbiome partnership and coordinate awareness.
Translate microbiome science into real-world impact
Accelerate the transformation of microbiome knowledge into evidence-based policies and affordable solutions. Foster innovations and collaborative research while supporting regulatory framework to promote microbiome-based innovations that deliver measurable benefits for One Health, food systems sustainability and the environment.
WMP’s objectives are implemented through its Working Groups, which bring together experts across sectors and geographies to drive alignment, generate outputs, and translate microbiome science into impact.
